Destination Tirad Pass

27 Aug 2011.  The plan was to hike Ilocos Sur going to Sagada, Mountain Province while following General Gregorio Del Pilar's route, Tirad Pass, trying to evade American forces in 1899 at the height of the Philippine-American War. While on our way to the mountains, Typhoon Mina is hitting down with full force over Northern Luzon with Signal Level 3. Road block due to landslide is a constant occurrence. We had to cross a river that is too wild so the group decided to stay the night at Barangay Bulala in Salcedo, Ilocos Sur. We were greeted by friendly locals offering their homes as shelters saving us from pitching our tents in the rain. Constant raining made us abort the trip not without the hopes of returning again soon and finishing the trip.
